FAQ

Common questions about EOIs and SkillSelect

What is an Expression of Interest (EOI)?

An Expression of Interest (EOI) is a profile submitted through SkillSelect, the Australian Government's online system for managing skilled migration applications. You submit an EOI to indicate your interest in applying for a skilled visa. The Department of Home Affairs then issues invitations to apply based on your points score and the available invitation places.

How are SkillSelect invitations issued?

Invitations are issued in rounds, typically every two weeks. In each round, the Department invites the highest-scoring EOIs in each visa subclass and occupation. The cut-off score varies by round and occupation. If you do not receive an invitation, your EOI remains in the pool for future rounds.

What is the minimum points score for a skilled visa?

The minimum points score to submit an EOI is 65 points. However, the actual cut-off score for receiving an invitation is almost always higher — often 80 to 90 points or more for popular occupations. Nilesh Nandan can advise you on realistic invitation prospects based on your current score and occupation.

How long does an EOI remain valid?

An EOI is valid for 2 years from the date it is submitted. If you do not receive an invitation within 2 years, your EOI expires and you will need to submit a new one. You can update your EOI at any time to reflect changes in your circumstances.

Can I submit an EOI without a skills assessment?

In most cases, no. A positive skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority is required before you can submit an EOI. The assessing authority depends on your nominated occupation. Nilesh Nandan can advise you on the correct assessing authority and assist with the skills assessment application.
