TRAVEL INSURANCE DIRECTORY

Travel Insurance for Visa Holders

If you hold a temporary visa in Australia and plan to travel overseas, you need travel insurance that is separate from your OVHC or OSHC. Not all providers cover temporary residents — this directory lists those that do.

Important: This page lists travel insurance providers for informational purposes only. We do not sell, advise on, or receive commissions from travel insurance products. Always read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and check that your visa type is covered before purchasing.

Key Considerations for Visa Holders

Check Your Visa Conditions

Some visas have travel restrictions or require a travel facility. Subclass 482 and 485 holders generally have unlimited travel rights, but bridging visa holders may not. Always check VEVO before booking flights.

OVHC vs Travel Insurance

OVHC covers you while in Australia. Travel insurance covers you while overseas. They are different products — you may need both. Your OVHC does not cover medical expenses incurred outside Australia.

Temporary Resident Eligibility

Not all travel insurers cover temporary residents. Some require you to hold a permanent visa or be an Australian citizen. Always check the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) before purchasing.

Credit Card Travel Insurance

Some credit cards include complimentary travel insurance, but coverage for temporary residents varies significantly. Check your card's PDS — many exclude non-permanent residents entirely.
