4122-11 Metal Fabricator
Boilermaker
Marking off and fabricating structural steel and other metal stock to make or repair metal products and structures including boilers and pressure vessels.
4122-11 Metal Fabricator Skill Level:
An AQF Certificate III or higher qualification is required. Registration or licensing may be required.
4122-11 Metal Fabricator Tasks Include:
- studying drawings or specifications to determine job requirements
- selecting, cleaning and preparing metal stock, fabrication tools and equipment
- cutting, rolling, bending, shaping, moulding, spinning, heating or hammering metal products to fabricate parts or sub-assemblies
- fitting and assembling metal components by riveting, bolting, welding, brazing or soldering
- finishing products by cleaning, polishing, filing or bathing them in acidic solutions
- measuring quality of fabricated parts or sub-assemblies
- may be setting up and operating spinning lathes to spin shaped articles from sheet or structural metal
- may be planning, layout and fabricating mould patterns or templates for producing metal castings or articles
