Carrying out preventative therapy related to dental hygiene under the direction of dentists.
3492-13 Dental Hygienist Skill Level:
An AQF Diploma or higher qualification or at least 3 years relevant experience is required. Sometimes relevant experience is required in addition to the formal qualification.
3492-13 Dental Hygienist Tasks Include:
- instructing patients in dental health and hygiene
- applying and removing periodontal packs
- selecting, applying and removing orthodontic bands
- issuing pre- and post-operative instructions to patients
- removing sutures
- applying therapeutic agents and fissure sealants to teeth
- scaling, polishing and rooting planes teeth
- polishing dental restorations
- taking impressions for mouthguard construction
- may be assisting with dental radiography
